About the Position
In this Leadership role reporting to Juno’s Founder & CEO, you’ll be responsible for the delivery, quality and student experience of Juno’s award-winning technical programs through managing our Admissions, Programs, and Outcomes teams.
Essentially, you'll manage teams that are responsible for selecting our Bootcamp students, training them, and placing them - spanning the entire student lifecycle. In addition, we have a sizeable Continuing Education portfolio (non-vocational courses) that your team schedules, staffs and manages.
This role is currently designed to have five direct reports and eight indirect reports. (Note that due to the vacancy on the Outcomes team, our VP role temporarily has seven direct reports.) For this role, we’re looking for a curious, experimental, hands-on leader with proven management skills and a full-stack technical background.
In this role, you’ll work closely with Juno’s CEO and our two other VPs (Growth and Operations & Finance) to lead this people-oriented company to continuous meaningful success, both financially and in terms of impact on our team, students, alumni, and the broader community. If you haven’t read our Vision 2022 blog post, we recommend starting there. This is definitely a unique opportunity to work for a woman-founded, founder-led organization passionate about equity, diversity, and inclusion, and about being Evergreen.
At this stage in Juno’s 10-year history, our programs are extremely successful and well-loved by students. Year to date, our customer satisfaction score across all programs and courses is 93% - meaning 93% of all students were satisfied or very satisfied with their experience at Juno. Our referral rate year to date is 47%! We need you to come in and work with our Programs team to build on that success, while also working with our Manager of Admissions to improve and streamline our approach and processes, and working with our Outcomes team to further improve our post-Bootcamp placement rates.
We feel it is most important that our VP, Technical Programs & Outcomes has significant management skills and experience. We’re looking for a strategic leader who can identify how our student lifecycle should be configured to enable a great student experience that is long-term sustainable and designed to ensure the business is reasonably profitable, which is key to our vision of remaining long-term independent and being Evergreen.
We're seeking someone with a technical background for this role for a variety of reasons - to ensure we’re teaching the right content, to provide professional development opportunities to our team, and even to be able to occasionally step into the classroom if it so happens that multiple instructors need a sick day (thanks, COVID!).
The other reason we’re looking for someone with a technical background for this role is that there’s an opportunity to take over our product vision down the road (currently the function is owned by our CEO, with input from Leadership and the broader team). Where do we go from here - should we transform our Bootcamp into a full-stack program? Should we launch new continuing education courses? Should we bring back our Data Bootcamp? All of these options and more are real possibilities, and in the next year or two, we’ll be ready to select our next big initiative.
What success looks like in the first 365 days
First and foremost, it is critical that our incredible program and course quality be maintained. In 2021, our CSAT (customer satisfaction score) was 92%, and YTD our CSAT is 93%. We’re undergoing a shift to making our Bootcamp program beginner-friendly, so that transition needs to be carefully managed and evaluated.
We’ve also recently introduced a part-time version of our Bootcamp program which has received wonderful feedback so far. Our initial cohort continues until March 2023 - and it’s critical that our first cohort of students get amazing career outcomes. It will be an interesting challenge to determine how to scale the part-time Bootcamp to meet the demand we’re seeing.
We’ll also look to you to further processize and develop our Admissions process, making it more data-driven and efficient while still ensuring every student feels welcome and has a great experience with Juno.
Finally, on the Outcomes side, placements are up year over year but we’re still shy of our typical pre-pandemic placement rate of 70% placed within three months and 90% placed within six months, so we’ll look to you to strategize and configure the team that will be able to move us closer to this important goal.
