Looking for creative and fun ways to practice your coding skills?

Coding games are a great learning tool to practice your coding skills using a hands-on and interactive approach. Not only do they keep you engaged while you learn, but they’re also a great way to practice making strategic programming decisions, while having some fun at the same time!

Whether you’re new to coding or are looking for creative ways to practice your coding skills, these five free online coding games are a great, fun resource:

Flexbox Froggy

Flexbox Froggy is a fun and simplistic game where you help Froggy and friends navigate their way through the pond to the lilypad. The main advantage of this game is the simple interface that teaches you the basics of aligning things in flexbox by writing CSS code. This game is perfect for complete beginners to coding and web development.

Flexbox Defense

Protect yourself from incoming enemies and master your flexbox skills all at the same time with Flexbox Defense. In this tower defense game, you get the chance to practice your CSS skills by positioning your towers along a path to protect yourself from unwanted intruders. This game is a great tool to practice your flexbox skills and build on the commands that you also use in Flexbox Froggy.

Grid Garden

Grid Garden is another beginner-friendly coding game, where you’re introduced to the basics of using CSS grid to create layouts on a webpage. Grow your own carrot garden and practice your coding skills through defining columns, rows, and grid template areas! At Juno, our Web Development Bootcamp students love to play this game in class to master their coding skills and have a little friendly competition while they’re at it!

CSS Diner

CSS Diner is another simple and fun way to practice your beginner coding skills! This browser game has 32 levels that help you learn and practice CSS selectors. In each level you’re presented with a table with plates on it and the goal is to use your coding skills to select one of the plates using CSS selectors. The code becomes a little more complex as the levels progress, but the interface provides hints throughout the levels to help you out!
