To celebrate Black History Month, we've gathered a list of organizations dedicated to the growth of the Black tech community that we should all support not just this month, but year-round!


Black Girls Code

Black Girls Code is on a mission to empower young women of colour of ages 7 to 17 with a tech education through community outreach programs. The not-for-profit organization currency operates out of the United States, as well as in Johannesburg, South Africa. Their ultimate goal? "To provide African-American youth with the skills to occupy some of the 1.4 million computing job openings expected to be available in the U.S. by 2020, and to train 1 million girls by 2040."

Black Professionals in Tech Network

Black Professionals in Tech Network (BPTN) is dedicated to providing career support for Black professionals in tech through networking, senior executive sponsorship, and skill development. Their membership includes access to the BPTN community Slack group, tech job postings, and international networking opportunities. Their website also has valuable resources such as free reports and toolkits, and their Black Tech Experience Assessment Tool, designed to help organizations improve their Black tech experiences.

Black Tech Pipeline

Black Tech Pipeline provides recruitment services with a unique feedback model, event listings, and a job board. Tech talent can join their candidate database, and companies can either hire their recruitment services to find their next superstar team members, or pay to post their open roles and/or events on their boards.

Accelerate Her Future

Accelerate Her Future is a Canadian career accelerator that provides tailored programs for Black, Indigenous, and other women of colour in business and tech. Their 10-week Fellowship Circle is designed by women of colour, for women of colour, and consists of a wide range of programming such as "group mentorship circles, webinars, fireside chats, and networking with leaders from top business and tech companies."

/dev/color

/dev/color is a non-profit organization dubbed "the most powerful network of Black software engineers around." Dedicated to helping Black software engineers grow into industry leaders, /dev/color's program provides members with career roadmaps, networks, and peer groups for those based in their chapters located across the United States.

Code 2040

Code 2040's mission is to break down the barriers that prevent Black and Latinx people from participating in and becoming leaders in tech through community events and programs such as their Early Career Accelerator Program, which provides mentorship and coaching, and a 9-week Fellows Program, which provides internships with top tech companies.

Coding Black Females

Coding Black Females is a UK-based non-profit organization dedicated to holding regular meetups in order to create community, networking, and support for Black developers who are female, non-binary, or other underrepresented genders in tech. In addition to meetups, their website has helpful resources such as a job board, programs, resources, and discounts.

Black Boys Code

Black Boys Code is dedicated to inspiring young Black men to develop digital literacy and leadership through training and mentorship initiatives such as workshops, hackathons, after school programs, and summer tech camps. The non-profit organization is headquartered in Vancouver, with chapters from coast to coast across Canada.

Black Code Collective

Black Code Collective (BCC) is a community created by Black developers, for Black developers at any stage of their careers. Through their community Slack group and events, BCC is dedicated to sharing knowledge to help one another upskill and progress personally and professionally.

Baddies in Tech

Baddies in Tech is a global community and career development platform whose mission is "to empower 10K black and brown women to boldly take a seat at the tech table... and thrive." They offer three types of membership: a free general membership, a professional membership, and an ally membership. Their resources range from access to community forums and groups, career-focused mentorship circles and events, and newsletters.

Blacks in Technology

Blacks in Technology is a global platform and community dedicated to increasing the representation and participation of Black people in the tech industry. Through activities, events, and outreach, BIT provides resources, guidance, networking, and career opportunities for their members.

Black Women Talk Tech

Black Women Talk Tech is on a mission to help Black women grow, scale, and thrive in their next billion dollar tech business! They regularly hold panels, conferences, and multidisciplinary workshops centered on entrepreneurship, mentorship, investing, and more. BWTT also has a public job board and additional resources for members.

The Hidden Genius Project

The Hidden Genius Project is dedicated to training and mentoring Black male youth in technology, creation, entrepreneurship, and leadership skills. Their prorgamming includes mentorship experiences, youth-led events and workshops, internships, and on-site community initiatives.

Hack.Diversity

Hack.Diversity is transforming the economy by breaking down barriers for Black and Latinx professionals in tech. Based in Boston and recently expanding to New York, their programs provide career coaching and professional mentorship for graduates from coding bootcamps and colleges, leading up to summer internships at leading tech companies.

Hack the Hood

Hack the Hood is dedicated to supporting Black, Latinx, AAPI, and Indigenous communities in their tech journeys. Their practices are grounded in justice and ensuring economic mobility through tech skill-building programs, industry and education partnerships, and career support.
