__Toronto’s tech market is booming - you’ve probably been hearing it for years. __

But even with all the growth we’ve seen, there’s no slowing down, Toronto tech continues to grow at an incredible pace. In fact, according to CBRE’s 2019 Scoring Tech Talent report, Toronto is currently the fastest growing hub for tech jobs in North America. With more jobs than ever, new companies opening every day, and the industry’s top talent flocking to our city - there’s never been a better time to join Toronto tech.

In the last five years, 80,100 new tech jobs were created in the city, so it’s easy to see why they call Toronto the Silicon Valley of the North, or sometimes even better. In fact, in 2018 Toronto created almost as many jobs as the San Francisco Bay Area itself. Top international companies are taking notice of Toronto’s growing talent pool too - with names like Microsoft, Twitter, Uber, and Google setting up shop or expanding here. Microsoft alone has committed to investing $570 million into Toronto with 500 new full-time jobs.

It’s not just global giants benefiting from Toronto’s tech growth, the city’s tech boom is boosting local businesses too. In 2019, Canadian-based Shopify announced $500 million in investments and plans to double their employees by 2022.

I think Toronto is straight up the best place to start or build a tech company right now,” - Tobias Lütke, CEO of Shopify

MaRS also announced that they would expand their footprint to the 400,000 square-foot Waterfront Innovation Centre in 2021, continuing to support fast-growing Canadian companies, and in the first half of 2019, Canadian tech startups have collectively drawn over $3 billion from acquisitions, venture capital deals, seed funding, and grants.

Toronto now sits as the third largest hub for tech jobs in North America. Not only that, but the number of new roles are quickly outpacing the number of tech graduates ready to fill them, with Toronto adding at least 54,000 more jobs than graduates in 2018. At Juno, these numbers support what we already know - our graduates are in demand and are finding jobs, fast. There’s truly never been a better time to join the tech industry, and as always at Juno, we’re ready to help.
