Recently, Ladies Learning Code announced that they are moving into a new 7000 square foot space on Queen Street West in Toronto in January 2014. It's true, but it's not quite the whole story. In reality, it's more like HackerYou is moving, and we're taking Ladies Learning Code along with us. Oh, and we couldn't be more excited about it. When we decided to start running full-time front-end bootcamps in Toronto, we knew we would need more space. Renting Ladies Learning Code's space at the Centre for Social Innovation was great when we were starting up, and worked well for our part-time evening courses, but we knew it wouldn't be enough space if we were going to have a group of 25 students and three instructors there all day, every day. Plus, in reality, Ladies Learning Code had outgrown their space, too. With a capacity of only 30 people, they've never been able to host their largest workshops there. As the number of booking conflicts rose (mostly due to the growth of Girls Learning Code and Kids Learning Code) and as the Ladies Learning Code team experienced a growing desire to run multiple weeks of March Break and summer camps, it was time for both us and Ladies Learning Code to find a new home. We started looking at potential new spaces back in July and it's been quite the journey. On October 21st, the deal closed and we could officially say that we are moving in January 2014. We're calling the new space The Lab - a wheelchair accessible 7000 square foot digital literacy hub, outfitted with two huge classrooms, open work and lounge space, an open device lab, a maker space, full kitchen, boardroom and more, conveniently located at 483 Queen Street West in downtown Toronto. Check out the floor plan here. Thanks to an outside investor and including our contribution, over $300,000 will be spent making the space into exactly what Toronto needs. The future home of hundreds of classes, workshops, meetups and hackathons, this space will support Torontonians as they skill up for the 21st century. Yes, you can host your tech event here. Our moving date is January 15th and all of our courses and programs after that date will be run at The Lab instead of our current office, including our Winter 2014 part-time web development courses (which begin January 20th) and, of course, our full-time front-end bootcamp (which begins on January 27th). There are only a few spots left for both courses, so if you're interested in joining us and being among the first to learn in our new space, apply now. And, of course, feel free to follow along as it all comes together via the new Tumblr about The Lab at http://thelabtoronto.tumblr.com.
